Once again Arsenal provides the headlines, losing again at their supposed fortress, Emirates Stadium 0-2 to Aston Villa. Indeed it is just as difficult to predict what team is going to turn up on the day with Aston Villa. Perhaps it’s just best to leave these two teams out of any equation at the moment.
The other top teams all had comfortable wins. It now looks like a table with two tables inside it, the top half fighting for titles and European qualification and the bottom half fighting for Premier League survival.
Once again club versus country is becoming a big issue. Clubs need their players to be fit and keep the money rolling in. The England manager, Capello, needs the best English players available. This is a problem that will not go away. The clubs are facing the credit crunch just like everyone else. England as a body does not have those constraints upon it.
Just when you might have put your money on Germany to win at home against a supposedly weakened England side, what happens? England win away 2-1. Capello must be over the moon but how long before the rumours start about his future? Unless he can get his way over clubs releasing players for friendly matches the rumours will persist.
