Week 22 Premier News
The title race is heating up with favourites Manchester United continuing to dig out one nil victories, this week over West Ham with keeper Van Der Sar now holding the Premier League record for consecutive clean sheets. Liverpool remain second after a last gasp Fernando Torres winner away to struggling Portsmouth. The 3-2 scoreline would have pleased manager Rafael Benitez who left out several key players including the injured Steven Gerrard. The result also proved to be the end of Tony Adams short spell as Pompey manager.
Another huge manager change occured at Chelsea with Scolari losing his job after another 0-0 home draw, this time with Hull City, saw them slip to 4th in the Premier League. With Guus Hiddink appointed only on a temporary basis can the league runners up settle themselves enough to challenge in the league and Europe?
Aston Villa continue to pick up wins meaning Arsenal have no room for error as they battle for the Champions League positions. Another draw, this time against North London rivals Spurs has then 5 points adrift.
The bottom of the table remains very tight with some big names still struggling to pull clear. West Brom look likely to go down but Middlesbrough, Blackburn, Portsmouth & Spurs all needing a good run of results.
