What an amazing end to the transfer window. Man City are the new kids on the block. Their new billionaire backers have beaten the transfer record for a British club by buying Robinho and in so doing have given Mark Hughes a big boost. After Man City’s 3-0 win at Sunderland who knows where all this may end. One thing is for sure, the way Dr Sulaiman al Fahim is talking, Man Utd. its’ neighbour will feel like poor relations. However Man Utd. managed to pull off their deal with Tottenham’s Berbatov right on the stroke of midnight. Well done to them!
The results from Saturday now look long past but one thing is already evident, that this is going to be a fantastic season.
Arsenal won easily to get them back into the fray, Chelsea and Liverpool both drew games they were down to win. Wes Ham, Newcastle and Portsmouth all had fine wins to give them table boosting results. Indeed the three tiers to the table are now starting to take shape and any team that gains a win and 3 points will move up the table instantly.
The middle of the table looks to be the killing field, for a while at least.
Yesterdays events have shown that money more than ever is the driving force for the Premier league. With the UK in economic meltdown it’s amazing that so much money can be spent on football clubs and its players. More and more overseas money, management and players are flooding into the Premier league. More and more, the Premier league looks like becoming the worlds showcase for soccer, and more and more Mr. Capellos’ England looks like becoming a side show and not the main event.
